Don't know if AV software counts but, NOD32 from eset.com is superb.
Also like kerio personal firewall.

Anyone who leaves their online security in the hands of Microshaft must be a total nutter.
Try Spywareblaster. It stops rubbish from even getting onto your computer in the first place, and it's totally free. :D

Well, yes and no! :?
I just installed it by curiosity to see what it is, and how it works. I removed it after about one hour, not because I found something wrong in it, but just, as I said, wanted to know it better. Seemed to me interesting by scanning your computer in about just three minutes.
A friend of mine told me today that he was obliged to remove it after using it for about a week. The reason was: it caused his system to be slower and very heavy.
If my memory is good, I think it'll be integrated to windows system update later.

Thanks Chorley Dave, you have made my mind up.
After asking a simple question like "Has anyone else tried Microsoft's Antispyware?"
The first reply was that I am a "Nutter" for using it solely to protect my machine.
Who asked you?
How do you know what is on my machine?
If this is the high standard of posting to lambast anyone who either doesn't agree with you or makes a mistake in words by either leaving something out or trusting others not to take things out of context then I do not wish to be a part of it!

Lighten up man/woman. This isn't the Bill Gates Appreciation Society. Most of us on here found this place after having trouble with our PCs and invariably the problem was Microsoft related. I couldn't care less what you have on your machine - that's your business. For what its worth, I will tell you what I have on my machine AND I HAVEN'T HAD A SINGLE VIRUS IN SIX YEARS OF A HOME INTERNET CONNECTION.
1) A very basic firewall - none of this built in popup stopper rubbish etc. My superior (non-Microsoft) Opera or Mozilla browsers stop popups. No build in anti virus. My dedicated free anti virus looks after that.
2) AVG Free anti-virus. Six years without a virus says everything about that.
3) Spywareblaster - stops crap getting on in the first place.
4) AdAware - Run it once a month just to check. Hasn't found anything for as long as I can remember.
5) Spybot Search & Destroy - ditto.
6) Empty Temp Folders - Free. Cleans usage tracks and caches every time I reboot.
7) Regcleaner - There in case I uninstall anything. However, as I only install things I know I will use regularly it is redundant.
8.) An email notification program (PopTray) so that I can see what emails are waiting and delete all the crap on the server before it ever gets to my Inbox. As a result, although I have had the same two email addresses since 1999, I never get more than four or five spams sent to me in a week.
In addition.
A spare PC to test programs I might want but am not sure about. Gets formatted every week.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY I NEVER DOWNLOAD MICROSOFT UPDATES THAT ARE LESS THAN THREE MONTHS OLD. Therefore, all the unpaid beta testers can have all the problems and I can get the patched version.
Whether you decide to leave the forum, Medicate, is entirely up to you. All I can say is that whenever you mention Microsoft here you will always get a negative response from someone, probably me. It comes from experience. However, I hope you will continue to come here and give advice, it doesn't mean we always have to agree though.

Lots of our members can be a lilttle "enthusiastic" with their opinions at times Medicate. They dont always represent the majority views of the other members though.
We have to agree to disagree with some people sometimes.
A wise woman, ( I will include men in here too, in case there are any in the world at all, even though they appear to be able to hide themselves very easily :P ), listens to advice from everyone without rejecting any advice off hand. After thinking logically about the advice that she/he has been given she/he can then decide which ideas to try and which to reject :)

This is a very friendly forum but some members, including myself are inclined to call a spade a shovel. :)
Dave is a really helpful guy and I'm sure there was no offense intended.
You have to have a thick skin sometimes and not take anything said as personal. You should hear what they say about me lol and I would love to hear what they say about me when I'm not here. :wink:

I decide to have my weekly go at Microshaft (although someone else seems to think I was having a go at them) and, as a result, poor Lona gets a load of flack.
I'd love to know what is said about me when I'm not around.............
