hi,
my dads laptop has a sony dvd rw in it which has worked fine for the past 4 or 5 months... now it seems to be very noisy and does not read any types of disks except software(it doesnt run dvds or audio cds).... he has ried formatting the computer but still hen you put a disk in the drive starts making a loud noise and occasionally beeping... my dad called a technichan but the guy didnt seem to know what he was doing.. is there anything you reccomend my dad tries???

have you got Nero installed on it PoD?
That has a drive checking utility that may tell you whats wrong but if its making noises that usually doesnt sound good, no pun intended  :(
