g'day everyone
To save me trawling through windows explorer, do any firefox users know where the firefox bookmarks folder lives and if there is a built in facility to back it up. Thankee :D

Hi Dave,
It's in here >> C:\Documents and Settings\[yourname]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[xxxxxxxx]\Bookmarks
:)

Thanks Simon, i knew you'd know :D

I use this daveeb
http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/
just place a shortcut icon on your desktop that way you can either backup your latest Firefox profile and or if you use the Thunderbird mail client that also at the click of the icon.... They back up seperatlely, the advantage is [instead of everty time having to manually search for the folder Simon mentioned] you can not only "backup" but also "restore" earlier save backups.
For instance I have three save backups of both Firefox and Thunderbird, on different dates.....it also works for those using the Mozzila all in one browser, like Simon

Have you ever tried restoring a backup made with that software, Tony? I did once, and it wouldn't work, so I was pleased I had also made a manual backup. It's the sort of thing one might not test, until such time as it's needed. :|

If my memory serves me well, I had trouble trying to restore my Mozilla email backups onto a new Thunderbird install, when I swapped over from the Mozilla browser to Firefox and the Thunderbird email client. I got around it by transplanting my email profile from Moz to Thunderbird [the browser backup was not a problem]
But once that was done it works every time......and besides daveeb is already on Firefox....and if he's using Thunderbird....any backups he makes using that little program will be carbon copies of his existing profile.

I think I may have been trying to migrate from one version of Moz, to the next, and the backup tool wouldn't restore. Perhaps it's fine restoring to the same version.

Thats it Simon,
every time you do a new install the "profiles" folder has a different file name such as "9eht674h.default" or "zk946crb.default"
So when trying to do a restore with that program, it cannot find the correct "profile" to restore to. But once you have transplanted you existing "profile" into the newly installed Firefox version, your sorted, as it will then be able to restore correctly. Of course doing up grades to Firefox or Thunderbird does not affect it as your "profile" folder file path does not alter.
So, though your right to back up your "profile" folder as a "fail safe" measure. Lets say, for those who wish to semi auto back up their email folder say on a weekly/daily basis to another hard drive or partition. And have a "restore" facility as well this program is handy.
