How and where do I find out how to check the temperature of my cpu and how do I know if it's overheating?

On my PC I can see that in one of the BIOS sections Lona !

you should have some software that came with your motherboard, however this does depend on your motherboard.

I just finish building my own machine and this has one, though I dont have a problem with over heating. I have 4 fans and a blower on the go - its a nice 30 C in there so I can't moan.

What makes you think your machine might be overheating? or am I inferring.

Well Sam, when I boot up there is a terrible noise coming from the case. It settles down after about 10 minutes.

The turbo fan comes on frequently and sometimes PC shuts itself down which I thought might be a safety feature if motherboard was getting too hot.

yes it probably is a safety feature of your motherboard. If there is an awful noise it could be that one of your fans might have died (or on its way out). Do you have case fans? If so can you actually feel the air coming out of them?

Yes cold air is coming out Sam but vent at the back feels quite warm.

I blew up a psu before on another pc with not cleaning the dust out.

I must look inside and see if this one is needing cleaned.

ummm be careful. cleaning the dust off can actually cause more problems than you would have thought. You can cause static electricity to build up within the devices and thus cause them to blow up. If you are going to clean it  I would suggest using some antistatic material if at all possible or actually not doing it.

I only ever room the large clumps of dust.

I think you should have a look in the BIOS for the temperature info.

Is this a recent thing or has this been happening for a while now?

Si Soft Sandra should monitor the current temperature Lona.
I think you told me you had that program once.
You can open that and check the temperature in the CPU module of the program while the pc is actually running so you dont have to close down and enter the BIOS to see it  :)

do you know what motherboard you have? Most modern motherboards come with their own software to tell you this info.

Try "speedfan" lona.  very simple to use but watch out for the odd erroneous reading (usually 128 c) due to onboard sensors not connected to anything.

having said that sometimes its better not to know  :roll:
