Title: Dial-up keeps setting to pulse dial

I have been trying to fix my father-in-law's dialler without success .

The dialler keeps resetting to pulse dial when his phone uses tone dial . I keep resetting to tone dial and it works fine . I save all the settings , but as soon as I log off and log back on again , it returns to pulse dialling , what is going wrong ?

Which operating system are you using and which make of modem , is it internal or external ?

He is running windows ME and it is an internal modem .
It has worked fine since he bought the computer new - 4-5 years ago .
One day switched on and it wouldn't work .

I havent come across this before.
Did it just start doing this recently without any new software or hardware being added ?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, or possibly seeing if there are any updated drivers for the modem ?

Have you checked for any spyware or adaware that may be on the pc thats resettting it ?

Not something I have ever heard of, but the first place I would look is in Dial Up Networking just to reassure myself that it is dialing the right number and hasn't been hijacked by some premium rate dialer.
