Try phoning the service status on 08007317777 to find out if there are problems with your exchange. Remember that there is usually a delay of an hour or so before faults are recorded on this number. You can also check the service status online via "My account" in BT/Yahoo.
If you have a router then try re-booting it.
If it's more complicated than that then I'm sure someone else on here will help.

I assume that you are using an ADSL modem and not a router ?
If so open IE and then click on Tools go to Internet Options and then to the Connections tab.
Tick the always dial my default connection and apply, that should fix it.

luvvly jubbly thankyou, thats sorted it sandra however when i double click on internet explorer i still then have to click on the connect tab (which some times i have to do many many times before it connects) it's still an improvement but i'm sure in the past it has connected instantly & automatically, is it possible to adjust this atall??
many thanks

Try in the same setion, Dial whenever a network conection isnt present.
I havent used a dial up ADSL connection for a few years so I am a bit rusty on it

ok sandra, i'll try that, many thanks again................

Also, tick the box where it says "Always dial my default connection", in that same window.

Hi, KRO.
I'm in (somewhat) the same situation as you and have come to the conclusion that it is an XP problem. I have two PCs on the desk, one running Windows ME and one with XP on that I use only rarely.
The ME computer behaves in the "normal" way, I switch on the PC, open my browser, enter a URL or a bookmark and the connection box pops up, dials and bobs your uncle. However, with XP, all I get is "the page cannot be displayed" and a load of ramblings about checking my connection. I have checked my settings as per the advice already given, but to no avail. I have got round the problem on the XP machine by copying the connection icon from Network Connections to the Quick Launch bar so that I can easily get connected with one click of the mouse on the icon.
Hope you get it sorted one way or the other.
