Here is an annoying little problem that I have been battling with for ages.
My mate Martin helped me set up my new pc months ago, and set the users name as Martin.
Ive changed the name of the computer to my name, and changed the registration of Windows to my name. I am registered as the Administrator, and the only account on my machine is in my name as Administrator. The guest account is not active.
My Documents still say Martins Documents, and it wont let me alter it, and all my cookies say "Martin @ etc".
How can I alter this without re-installing Windows?
It would appear that somewhere he is entered as user.
Cant ask him to do it, as he loves a joke this, and dont want to give him the satisfaction lol.

How about creating an account for yourself, and moving all 'Martin's' documents to the new account?

Have you altered your username in the registry ?
If not do it this way :
Find the key:
Windows 98: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
Windows NT: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
Modify 'RegisteredOwner' and 'RegisteredOrganization' to become whatever you desire
For XP pro :
Click Start > Run and type REGEDIT
Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion
Right-click on RegisteredOwner and select Modify
Change the Value data: to your the new owner name
Right-click on RegisteredOrganization and select Modify
Change the Value data: to the new organization name
Reboot and you should be sorted
That should change the My Docs folder to the same name as you select, I think.

Thanks you guys-Will try Sandras suggestions, and if that dosent work, will try a new account.
Got to calm down a bit before messing with registry!
Will report back!
:D

I think I must admit defeat on this one!
Ive done as Sandra said, but on reboot it went back to Martin!!
The PC is registered to me, but cant get rid of Martin lol.
The only reference I can find to his name in Registry is in Winlogon, but as I say you can edit it, but goes back on reboot.
Of course I could change my name!!!

We don't give up that easily round here! Try this DG:-
1. Click the "Start" menu.
2. Select "Control Panel".
3. Select "User Accounts".
4. Click the account name - "Martin".
5. Click "Change my name".
6. Enter in a new account name and click "Change Name".

Sorry, but I got no account named Martin. I have managed to change the account name to mine as Administrator, and that is the only account on the machine. But Martin still appears as user!!! (Doing my head in)
When I check System Information I get System Name Delgado, User Name Delgado/Martin.
Im off for a drink!!!!!!!

Try logging in as admin in safe mode and doing the regedit as described earlier while in safe mode.
I am sure that should work :)

Just been to Microsoft Site, and they say that although you can change the name of the Account, so it is named differently on the Welcome Screen, the original Account remains the same and the Documents Folder will always remain as under the default name.
This only applies in Windows XP Home, in any other Windows it can be edited!!!
Seems like either a new account or stuck with it!!
Any way thanks for your efforts!

I'm sure there must be a hack to get round that, DG, but I've been unable to find it. You can't be the only person who has had this issue. One place it might be worth looking, is http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm which is a marvellous resource for all things XP, but a bit of a bugger to navigate. Suggest you start off with the A-Z section, perhaps look under U for Users?

Thanks you guys for the suggestions. Not had success with anything so far. I think I will live with it.
Nerves wont stand any more at mo; might try at a later date.
