Title: Desktop Earth 2.0
Post by: Clive on March 11, 2006, 08:05
Desktop Earth 2.0 is a wallpaper generator for Windows. It runs whenever you're logged on and updates your wallpaper with an accurate representation of the Earth as it would be seen from space at that precise moment. The images are fantastic. Oh, and it's free.

Looks good, but my system is slow enough at the moment, without adding extra tasks.  I feel a format and Windows re-install coming on soon....  :(

I have Google Earth, but it's not an application I use every day.  Las time I did use it, I was amazed at how much the image qualities had improved.

I've used it.  As Simon says, they've come a long way just recently.  Here's my place when Murphy & Sons were still trying to make all the bits fit together, in Summer 2003.

I D/L Desktop Earth 2.0 a couple of days ago. And ever since I've had trouble even accessing my emails.
My poor old Packard Bell Force 4146 came up saying "not enough memory"
so I had to delete it. Now everything is back to normal.
Time for a new computer.
If speed scares you, try Micro$oft Windows.

Google Earth is also a huge download, and doesn't it require .Net Framework for it to run?  It is good though - I can see my old house on the Isle of Wight!

yes but lots of things require .NET so it is worth having.. it isnt too big. Though saying that you could just use:

Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/) which is still pretty impressive... not as useful for long journeys cause google earth is pretty cool for that.

and whilst we are hear take a look at:

Google Moon (http://moon.google.com/) and
Google Mars (http://www.google.com/mars/)
