I am still having problems getting into safe mode. When I hit F8, I get the boot options, select Safe Mode, and the list of drivers runs through, then stops, and after about 5 minutes, the computer automatically reboots back into normal Windows.
I'm cautious of using the SAFEBOOT option in Boot.ini, in case I can't then get back into normal Windows. Any ideas?

Have you tried just switching off the power when in normal windows and then rebooting. That sometimes forces it into safe mode when it restarts.

Is that a good idea? I don't want to totally screw up Windows... :|

Shouldnt do any harm Simon.
It will probably run scadisk or chkdisk, I can never remember which.
Then send a message saying that windows has recovered from a serious error.
You can always do a system restore if anything strange happens, which I have never known it cause with XP :)

I don't trust System Restore, as it never seems to work when I need it to, but it seems I may not need to now.

You could always image your C drive as a precaution then it would be an easy matter to use that as a guaranteed system restore point :)

Yes.... I know I should, but it sounds a bit too much like hard work. :blush2: I'll be formatting and reinstalling Windows at some point, so perhaps then I'll partition my drive, and do things properly. ;)
