Hi,
I am new to this website but wondered if anybody could help me. I have got some AVI files on my computer which I play through realplayer. I put them onto a DVD-R a while ago to free some space, and they burned on fine. But when I now try to play them from the DVD, they stop half way through or completely crash my computer.
The burning process was fine - the DVD plays on other PCs, and the couple of quicktime films on the disc also play great. I am stuck with what to do though - I can not copy and paste the files onto my hard-drive either (data-cylindric error), and have downloaded the codecs I could find. I am really stuck!
I also bought an external hard drive recently, and moved an avi file acvross to it. When I try and play this, the film plays really slowly too. But all avi files on my hard-drive play perfectly!
It would be great if anyone had any suggestions because it's driving me mad.
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave and :welcome:
I cant think why you are having that problem with Real Player :?
I personally dont like Real player or Quicktime, I prefer to use Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative, (both free, just google for them), as they provide the necessary codecs to play their files in windows classic media player without the bundled stuff that comes with the full versions.
It may be worth uninstalling Real player and installing Real Alternative as it may be something on Real Player thats got corrupted ?
If you are using USB 1 for your external hard drive and not USB 2 then the data rate wont be fast enough for streaming video.
People have had the same problem over wi fi if on 11mbs and not the later 54 and 108mbs speeds.

Hi Dave and.................

Have you tried downloading videolan, it's free
http://www.videolan.org/
It will play virtually any avi files.
It is also possible if movie is freezing half way through, that your pc is running out of memory to continue to play files.
