Title: Freeview Box
Post by: Clive on November 13, 2006, 20:32
I have a Daewoo DS700 box which I purchased from Tesco's for very little money just 5 months ago.  I think it was around £29.  It stopped working a few weeks ago and won't pick up any channels at all.  I assumed that it was an aerial problem but today, in a different property, I replaced another Daewoo DS700 with my own, using their cables and connectors and found that my nearly new box is faulty.  I didn't bother keeping the receipt since it was part of my Tesco bill, so I don't stand a snowball's chance of getting my money back.   :(

I think if you took it back to Tesco's, they would rather replace the box than risk bad customer relations, Clive.  If they are the only retailers selling that model in the area, it's perfectly reasonable to assume it was purchased from them.  I would certainly give it a try.

Those boxes are sold everywhere Simon.  It's actually the second one I bought and the original is still working fine after around 2 years.  The reason I bought the same one again was because I knew how to set it up.  :D  I suppose it's worth a try but if I were Tesco's I would tell me to sling my hook.  On the other hand.... I remember having to fill out a form at the checkout for the TV license people so they just may have a record of that.  I must take greater care with my purchase receipts in future because I recently bought an electric kettle that blew up after just 10 months.  No receipt yet again!

A form at the checkout for the TV license people?  Never had to do that myself.  Why should you have to tell them?  You don't have to have a license for each box.

I was surprised too!  I was even asked for proof of identification!
