Title: Dvd re-writer

found a problem after new rebuild using my old dvd reiwriter it seems to burn audio cds fine no problems but when trying to use any software for dvd re-writing always fails with errors or says its completed and the discs still blank...any ideas?

Presumably it's something to do with writing video to disc (obviously, CDs are just audio), or possibly it doesn't like the brand of blank DVDs you are using.  If it's the writer, they are fairly cheap to replace, and you shouldn't need to spend more than £30 for a decent one.

In the meantime, can I just say, it's nice to know whether we have helped people or not, so replies to your three threads below would be good.

Have you got it connected on an 80 wire IDE lead ?

DVD writers can be a bit iffy if using the older type 40 wire ones for some reason.

Im just investigating it today i cant remember which cable im using  will strip it and see today ...thanx

the other thing thats started happening is that on startup it says raid controller detected please load software....is this related maybe?

It shouldnt be, unless you wanted to set up a RAID array.
