Title: Dead Ipod?
Post by: mistybear on February 13, 2007, 12:49
Michael was given an Ipod that doesn't work and was asked if he could fix it?

I don't know anything about them, but when it's plugged into the computer for charging, you can just hear a high pitched noise. Besides that, it doesn't do anything else?

Can they be fixed, or is it a case of once the battery is dead, so is it.

batteries can be replaced quite easily... but the high pitched noise seem omnious.. I know how to fix most with a creative zen but not an Ipod... I'll do a bit of hunting in a moment and see if I can come up with any ideas. Out of interest, what type of ipod? I am assuming it is an older one without video.. if you dont know ask michael, he's bound to know.

also does the computer detect the presence of the ipod? / does the scree say anything?

Sorry Sam, that's all I can tell you at the moment as it's 12.20am, and he's asleep, so I'll post it tomorrow.

btw he's doing a computer course and he will be looking into operating system such as Linux. So we may be calling on your expertise, he's quite excited about Linux as he's heard great things about it.

I have fixed a couple of them that high pitched noise sounds like the hard drive is dead , they are a bugger to pull apart, does the LCD screen work? sometimes the hard drive
jams you could try giving the ipod a firm smack on the back it has been known to work. The battery can be replaced ebay sell them.

Thanks guys, there is some very useful information there. Michael will have a lovely time reading it. ;D

Oh, and apparently it's more of a humming or buzzing noise, and apart from that, "there is no other sign of life".
