Wikisky is a draggable, zoomable, web-based star map. And if you click on a star or other object, it brings up a page with all the information you could want on it, including recent articles and astrophotos that contain that object. And it does lots more. Go explore.

ooh thats good... I hadnt come across that before...

and wow, the SDSS link is great!

When I first saw it I thought it was just another crappy planetarium programme, but when I started to delve a bit deeper it impressed the hell out of me. I had no idea the SDSS was as good as that! Now we are all professionals! ;D Oh, I forgot - you already are!! 8-)

the sdss is a mostly a galaxy survey, looking at a quite large numbers, millions - so you wouldn't expect them to image things that a non professional might be interested in. I have to say though for an online planetarium there are lots of options.

Yes it is clever but as you say not so much for us non pro's :embarassed:

but then again.. if you just use it to find out info on objects and where they are in the sky and a free internet planetarium, if you are stargazing anywhere and wanna know what you can see then it is really quite cool and useful.
