One can change the charset of the database and the tables inside that database to different versions. I think i'm just off on how to set them. I had it set, accidentally, to a charset combination that worked for several days, but then it crapped out and started outputting question marks. I was hoping to find someone familiar with myphpadmin and fluent in french.

well i lose it on the last bit... sorry :-)
How come french btw?
Are you sure there isn't a combination of settings you have to use?

Why am I looking for a french phpadmin person or why am I using french on the database?
I setup the database with myphpadmin specifically to run a search engine I found for my server. It searches through all 30,000 files currently hosted on the server. The main issue i have with it is that some of the files have french characters in the name. So if I want the search engine to correctly list the url the database has to output the correct characterset.
There is a charset setting for communicating directly with mysql. There is a charset setting for creating a new database and there is a charset setting for creating tables. Each one lets you choose between about 30 different charsets. I've tried a ton of combinations.
