quick question on HD that I have wondered about for ages.

when looking at your HD properties window, why does it  state that the total capacity of the drive is not the size that you bought.

eg: mine says that the capacity is 149GB when I know I bought a 160 GB drive...............or did I  ;D

Manufacturers work out the size as 1 gig per 1,000 mb whereas in reality there are 1,024mb per gigabyte.
The bigger the drive the more you "lose", you also lose a little of the capacity by the formatting process but thats not much.

I didn't know that was the reason sandra.  :blush: You would think they would redefine the measurements as to not confuse the consumer. I remember somewhere i think in california some group decided to sue over this.
