Does anybody know if there is a registry "hack" which can be used to alter how often AVG Free Edition demands to be updated?
I spend a lot less time on the computer than I used to, especially during "summer" when I am often out hiking or camping. As a result, the computer can sometimes go days at a time without being switched on. AVG Free demands a update every five days and there is no way within the program to change this, so (at the moment) every other time I switch the thing on I get AVG demanding an update. For example, I have switched on today, got the pesky "Definitions are out of date" bubble, updated the definitions, then had to update the program as the update manager was indicating that a program update was ready, updated that and then immediately after restart another update was waiting. By the time I had done all of this and then allowed the changed program in my firewall, seven minutes had gone by and I had only put the PC on to check for an email I am expecting from a campsite owner! This is unacceptable.
There must be something in the registry that can be altered to force AVG to look for updates at a more reasonable interval, like every fourteen days. If anybody can tell me where it is I'll put you on my Christmas card list!
Thanks.

is that problem with the bubble more related to windows detecting that it is out of date than avg?

Dave, have you tried unticking both boxes in the >Test Centre > Scheduler > Edit Schedule tab. And just doing it manually by hand when the fancy takes you ;D

Thanks, Tony, I'll try that. :)
The bubble seems to be built in to AVG, Sam, but I have found a way to turn the alerts off.
Thanks again.

Disable it in startup and setup the windows scheduling agent to execute it once a month or whenever you there. That would be a little more automated. The lazzzzy way. It takes too much effort to press that update button. ;)
