Hi Everyone
Is there any software out there which can use to keep all my passwords safe. I know that windows will keep all your password for you, but I dont like to save my passwords from sites Iv visited, so i never add save passwords in Options, what I want is something that I can store my passwords in in stead of writing them down on paper, is there such a thing?, I'm sure you guys can help me as always
Thanks

Have a look at www.roboform.com. :)

If you use a Palm OS device, Kaz, then look at Top Secret (http://www.clicklite.com/), as this will handle the passwords on the desktop and the PDA.

Thanks for this
I don't have Palm OS mine is windows XP, think I will give this Roboform a go
Cheers Guys

notepad?

Bobscrachy,
Thanks for that  but it wouldn't be secure would it? :dunno:
-
It would be if saved to a floppy or a USB flash drive :)
Easily added to or edited when necessary too.
-
It would if you didn't give it to anyone. If your worried about other people using your computer in your home then compress it with winrar (http://www.win-rar.com/download.html). You can password up your passwords. :-)

Great!
thanks for that.
Just out of interest how do you all keep your passwords safe, and do you trust Internet Exp or Firefox to keep your passwords?
-
i have mine in Word with a password.

I use a weird and wonderful browser called Avant which remembers all my passwords in a similar way to Firefox and IE7.

Can you put a password on word?

I use to use avant, but i switched to FF when i saw all the advantages of its addons.

Firefox has a Password Manager, which you can set a Master Password for to make secure. It would save having another application to deal with, Kaz, but I have to be honest and say that I only use Password Managers for forums and online retailer logins. I wouldn't trust one to look after the password for my bank, or credit card online facilities.

Thanks Simon,
so do you think passwords for forums are ok then to save in Firefox and a big NO NO NO I would never trust or would never put my bank details
on line or anything other than in my ''secret hideaway''
cheers its good to get feedback from all you peolpe and you then look at things in a different light still undecided thou

Passwords for forums, etc, are fine to be stored in Firefox. In fact, it's probably even secure enough, with the Master Password set, to use for more sensitive data, providing no one else uses your computer, but I tend to be a bit paranoid about security, so I'm just saying I wouldn't use it myself for anything to do with banking, etc.

Simon
thanks again for your input I have to agree I don't care how much security you have some clever dick will get it if they want it enough, look at today for instance I got a Virus  yes a Virus all the anti virus stuff I have and still I get a Trojan don't ask me how, I just noticed that my pc wasn't just right you know you just get a feeling about things and how they perform thing weren't just right well Iv sorted it now (hopefully).
I think I will let Firefox accept my passwrods etc then only for web sites and forums though
Thanks for the help again

I never save my passwords anywhere. I just remember them and hope for the best. I only every save my user name but never my password.
-
The reality is you mine as well not worry about it. If you get a keylogger virus on your machine everything you type is potentially compromised. I use generic passwords for all the forums i go to. I only use custom passwords for my computer account, remote access of my computer and bank accounts, and email accounts.
The only real reason to save your passwords somewhere is so you don't forget them. Internet security is a contradiction.

Can you put a password on word?
Yes - go to tools-options-security
You can do this in excel too.

Thanks Michelle

I copy & paste important passwords it gives keyloggers no chance.

Hi :)
I use KeePass (http://keepass.info/)
It has all of the features i need to keep my most important password and username secure.
What is KeePass?
Today you need to remember many passwords. You need a password for the Windows network logon, your e-mail account, your homepage's ftp password, online passwords (like CodeProject member account), etc. etc. etc. The list is endless. Also, you should use different passwords for each account. Because if you use only one password everywhere and someone gets this password you have a problem... A serious problem. The thief would have access to your e-mail account, homepage, etc. Unimaginable.
KeePass is a free/open-source password manager or safe which helps you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You can put all your passwords in one database, which is locked with one master key or a key-disk. So you only have to remember one single master password or insert the key-disk to unlock the whole database. The databases are encrypted using the best and most secure encryption algorithms currently known (AES and Twofish). For more information, see the features page.
I dont use it for forums logins, for that i let Firefox and Opera remember them as i dont think any important information can be gained if anyone gained access to my forum account.
