My PC has a DVD Writer and a CD Writer.
Both drives worked .
I replaced the CD Writer with another DVD Writer.
The New DVD Writer installed and works ok.
Unfortunately, the PC will not now recognise the original DVD Writer.
Any ideas as to why, please?

There are three possibilities i see. One you have the jumpers set wrong. Set one to master and the other to slave if they are on the same ribbon. The ribbon or power connectors might not be plugged in all the way. And lastly, you might need to run the drive search in the bios. Some bios aren't set by default to detect new hardware.

Thanks for reply.
The new DVD Writer, which replaced the CD Writer, was set as a master and I assume that the original DVD Writer was also set to be the master.
Not sure why the new one worked and the old one didn't but I will investigate tomorrow and let you know. Thanks again.

It was indeed the master/slave jumper.
Both now appear.
Thank you again.
