Title: how to create HERE
Post by: merlin on November 10, 2007, 11:31
this is one of those things that looks clever but is probably dead easy once you know

sometimes people make a post which contains a link to a web address.
its usually in the form of "HERE" or "LINK"

how do they do that, i can only put the address and i want to put "HERE"

can anyone help please??

If you use the main reply window (not Quick Reply), you just need to click the (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/Themes/default/images/bbc/url.gif) (Hyperlink) button, and it will ask you for the URL first, then the URL name, which is the "HERE" or "LINK" part you asked about.

You can also achieve the same manually, by using the following code:

Code: [Select]
[url=http://pc-pals.com]PC Pals[/url]
becomes:  PC Pals (http://pc-pals.com)

Sorry, I haven't edited your post, Merlin, I clicked the wrong button to reply!  :duh:

I do that regularly - but usually manage to backup before I commit.

i did'nt understand the bit about "you have'nt edited my post" but thats not important.

what is important is this test to see it ive got it,here (http://www.pc-pals.com)

but how can i do this in an ordinary email ,without the advantage of a ready made hyperlink button ???

You can't in an email - it's part of the board code.

Simon's reference to an edit is because your post is marked as being edited by him, because he hit the wrong button when replying.

You can do it in an ordinary email.  Most email clients do have a Hyperlink button, which works in much the same way as our pop up thingy.  What email client are you using, Merlin?

Outlook doesn't appear to, Simon, it just inserts the link, highlighted in blue.

There's a button in Thunderbird, in a drop down menu next to the smilies.

In Outlook it's Ctrl+K or Insert > Hyperlink, which allows inputting of the link and link name.  :)

In Outlook it's Ctrl+K or Insert > Hyperlink, which allows inputting of the link and link name.  :)

In 2003, it only inserts the link, at least on my setup, and only from the menu, no keyboard shortcut. I usually just type or cut'n'paste, therefore. That's with Outlook as the HTML editor, it may be different if Word is used.

In Outlook Express, type the URL name (i.e. HERE), highlight it, then click the Hyperlink button next to the Insert Image button.  Type in you URL, and it will be created as a 'HERE' type hyperlink.

With Outlook as the HTML Editor, it's the same as OE, Rik, and you can either use Insert > Hyperlink, or drag the Insert > Hyperlink icon from the Add or Remove Buttons menu, to the toolbar.  With Word as the editor, it works the same way, but you are given the option to create a Hyperlink from scratch, in a similar way to the board software.

I disable html in my webmail, but I think your wanting this. Post this code and people will see text with the hyperlink of your intended url.

Code: [Select]
<A HREF="www.cyberium.org">LINK</A>
