I was always led to believe that "dag" was a piece of excrement hanging from the back end of a sheep, not a funny person, nerd, goof as the listing claims?   :dunno:  We need answers!

Of course you would know all about what hangs off the rear end of a sheep Clive, and yes you are correct as it does have it's origins from the mother country. Yet another wonderful thing the British have given us, DAGS (http://www.anu.edu.au/andc/ozwords/Oct%202000/TailDag.html).

Glad to see that a dipstick is still a dipstick down under   :)x

I think we share many "slang" terms. Growing up I would say dipstick in place of a much ruder term, d*ckhead, and effwit in place of the full version.

What a comprehensive link on Dags.  Didn't realise so much could be written about them!  ;D  My favourite quote must be:

Hence from Yorkshire we have this redolently romantic promise made by a young shepherd to his sweetheart: ?My lambs new gowns shall bear thee, no daglocks shall ere come near thee? (Two Yorkshire Lovers, 244).
