What would cause a new computer to hang every time I shut down with the above message displayed? ::)
-
It looks like some sort of running process, Clive. Have you got anything on board that SSM relates to?
-
Seems to be related to Samsung Printer Monitor, Clive. Driver update required, maybe?
-
Oh you are clever Simon! I do indeed have a Samsung laser printer! At LINK (http://driverscollection.com/?H=ML-2010&By=Samsung&SS=Windows%20XP)
I can see
Manufacturer:Samsung
Hardware:ML-2010
Software name:Status Monitor
Version:1.05
File Size:18.08Mb (18961420 bytes)

I only bought the printer a few weeks ago and it was fine on the old machine running XP Home. But I must admit that the problem started when I installed the printer on this XP Pro machine. Do you think I should download that file?
-
If the printer is only a few weeks old, it should already have the most recent drivers, Clive, but I suppose it might be worth a try. Have you tried reinstalling the printer software? It sounds like it's 'sticking' when you shut the machine down, or it could be that the machine is closing down too fast, and not allowing everything to be put to bed first. I think there's a registry edit to slow down shutdown, if you want me to have a look for it.

It's definitely a problem with the printer status manager. I tried to repair it but it just hung. Then I tried to uninstall it but it didn't do so cleanly. A re-install claimed tha access was denied to a part of the program so I suppose my CD is corrupted. 2 days old and I'm already having problems! :bawl:
-
Oh dear! Have you tried uninstalling it in safe mode, Clive?
-
The other thing to try, Clive, is running MSConfig, and seeing whether you can stop it loading. In all probability, the printer doesn't need it to operate.
-
Nice thinking Rik! That sorted it! Many thanks for that suggestion. 8-)
-
Guess who stops most printers loading their status monitor. ;)
-
A man of experience obviously! ;D
-
Also, a man who runs out of ink often! ;D
-
Never. Have you seen my stock cupboard?? ;D
(Sad that I am, I keep a database of cartridge and toner use, so I can predict when I need to order...)

But one who can always print. :P ;D
