My Monitor has been Dead since a power cut ,it has power to it but I,m not getting any image on screen any ideas ,I,m using an old crt at the moment, any ideas .....Jim

Looks like something has blown on the main board or the backlight inverter is dead, your electricity supplier should be liable if it went dead with a power cut.
Reading stories like that makes me glad i use an "UPS" unit. Probably not worth repairing with the low price of new ones now.

Hi Jim,
Would it be possible to try the monitor on another machine?
-
That's probably the only useful diagnostic at this point, Simon. :(

Thanks for the help guys ,tried on another pc still no joy looks like a new one is required,it was surge protected as well with one of those big Belkin surgemasters funny thing is the missus monitor of the same make a 710v is ok ......Jim

Surge protection is often not enough when there's a big mains spike, as tends to happen with power cuts. I favour conditioning UPSs for that reason. :( You may be able to claim from Belkin though...

Treat yourself to this one TM

I got it from Santa and it's brilliant. :D

Same thing happened to me a few weeks back. Belkin - 6 power cuts - Mrs Clive's machine knackered mine clinging on. I ended up slinging both and getting 2 new ones.
-
And you've not had a day's peace since. ;)

i keep thinking of buying a ups, but never do - any recommendations?

APC, Unitek or Belkin are all good Sam, just go for an inline, or conditioning model, not a backup type. Misco (http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=236160&CatId=1417) have this 1200VA Belkin for £112, there's an 800VA unit for £98.
Quidco gets you an extra 5% discount.

ooh thanks for info, I'll look into it...

If you get one don't plug a laser printer into it, they draw too much current, ive been using the same APC UPS for 5 years now. I don't trust those surge protect boards.
You could get an UPS from ebay with dead batteries cheap, then replace the batteries yourself.
