Title: MPG Video Files Not Recognised
Post by: GillE on January 28, 2008, 02:00
My computer has suddenly decided that MPG format video files should only be played as audio files.  I've tried playing them in both Media Player and Real Alternative but no picture is available.

Can anyone help, please?

How about Video Lan Gill ?

It has to be a codec problem I would have thought  :dunno:

You could try this codec pack and see if it helps :

Thanks for the suggestion, Sandra.  Unfortunately, the codec download didn't remedy the problem;  however, VideoLAN came to the rescue and is now playing the files quite happily  .  It is succeeding where other media players (including WinAmp) have failed.

Thank goodness for Open Source programs!  They seem to have greater compatibility with Vista than many commercial programs.

or you could try the klite codec pack as this allows you to play video files in just about any player that you have installed, however some people think it contains a lot of rubbish as well tho' i've not had any problems with it myself.
