Mornin' ;)
i've got a new laptop with Vista home premium 32 bit on :ack: I like a change but this is a change for the worse as non of the programs I routinely use seem happy with vista e.g. nero 6.xxx, auto gordian knot, winavi to name but a few. My query is does anyone have any experience of using avg free and zone alarm free with vista premium. A bit of research suggests that avg 7.5 onwards should be ok but that zone alarm is flaky or won't install at all. i don't want to uninstall the current AV (norton 3 month trial :-X) until i'm sure that i have a decent replacement. Also is the windows firewall any use, i believe the vista version monitors inbound and outbound traffic but would e.g. comodo be any better. ta for any advice

I found the same problems Dave, when I got my new pc with Vista home premium. Lots of programmes didn't work and I had to find ones that were compatible with Vista. Nero, I didn't have a problem with as it came pre-installed. I had to redownload Gordon Knot. Winavi still gives problems but works on occasions. I use avg free and it seems to be OK. I also use windows firewall and windows defender for spyware.

AVG works fine with Vista Dave. :)
Not tried ZA with Vista.
Dont forget to try the compatability mode option when trying some programs, if they install but dont run properly.
You need Nero 7 upwards for Vista.
As I use a router I havent bothered with anything other than Vistas security for the firewall.

Ta for your thoughts Lona and Sandra ;) I think i'll go with AVG and just use the windows offering for firewall protection. Anyone got a copy of windows 3.1 they don't need :)x

I've found AVG to work okay with my Vista machine too, Dave, but I couldn't run ZA. Rather than rely upon the MS firewall, I've installed Comodo.
I can't comment on Nero because, like Lona's, my burning software came pre-installed.

I understand that ZA won't work with Vista.
