Title: Office 2003 Problem
Post by: Simon on May 31, 2008, 08:48
Since I re-installed MS Office 2003 on my new machine, my File > Send To > Mail recipient option isn't available.  It's there, but not selectable.  I've been through the Options, and can't find anything to 'switch it on', so does anyone know what I need to do to enable this?

I think you have to download Office 2003 service pack 1 Simon.  There is a Microsoft support article about it.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835738

I have checked, and have SP3, so I assume that would have included SP1, and I don't have to install it separately.  Any other ideas?  :dunno:

Clive, that link seems to mention 'InfoPath' quite a bit - is that the same as Office 2003?

Try repairing the installation, Simon (Control Panel > Add/Remove > Repair). It works fine on mine, so it may be a registry entry got bent out of shape. Possibly, of course, it could be a case of Office not recognising your mail client, do you need to turn on MAPI there?

Hi, Simon.

Infopath is an application that comes as part of Office 2003.  It is for designing electronic forms.  Although I have it, I have never used it.

Just had a thought, Simon.  I have checked my Office 2003 installation and Send To > Mail Recipient is available.  I might be getting confused with something else, but I have a feeling that you have to have Outlook 2003 installed for it to work.  Have you installed Outlook?

Sorry Simon, I didn't notice the Infopath reference!  I use the inferior Word 2007.

I used 2000 for many years and it behaved faultlessly.  It was a big mistake to downgrade to 2007.

chorleydave was correct, just got this from the help file in word....

System requirements for e-mailing a message or document
To e-mail a message or document in HTML format   You need Word 2000 and either Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express 5.0 or later. You must set either Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express 5.0 or later as your default e-mail editor.

I dont use it much but I forgot how annoying that paperclip is ;D

Come to think of it, I also believe Dave is correct.  I don't have Outlook installed, and OE is not my default mail client, so that's probably it.

Thanks guys!  :)

It would probably be better if we all reverted to Word 6.0  ;D
