Title: Firefox 3 coming next week
Post by: Clive on June 12, 2008, 17:43
The date has been set for the release of the final version of Firefox 3 - Tuesday 17 June.

Mozilla is aiming to set a world record for the most downloads for an application in one day and, given that there is no existing mark to beat, is guaranteed to do so.

There have been more than one million pledges from surfers around the world to download the browser in the first 24 hours after its release.

"After more than 34 months of active development, and with the contributions of thousands, we're proud to announce that we're ready. It is our expectation to ship Firefox 3 this upcoming Tuesday, June 17th," said a posting on the Mozilla Developer Center blog.

Meanwhile, a third Release Candidate of Firefox 3 has been issued by Mozilla, which is likely to be the last pre-release version of the browser, provided no more major security or performance issues are found.

In related news, Opera today released version 9.5 of its browser software, which is free to download.

I just hope they've got enough server power to deliver it!
