Title: PDAs...?
Post by: Simon on July 13, 2008, 11:26
I think I know what I'm talking about - one of those mini-computers about the size of a sat-nav.  Firstly, any recommendations, and secondly, would it connect to the internet through my mobile phone connection, or would I also need a wi-fi enabled mobile to do this?  Reason being, I have unlimited data with O2, so wouldn't want to be paying extra still, to run a PDA.

Not sure what exactly it is you want or even if you even do  ;D but it looks quite confusing to me  >:D

I think all the lists below kinda do the same thing  ':| ...

PDA's (http://www.trustedreviews.com/filter/mobile-devices?price_min=nmin&price_max=nmax&score=0&section_id=11&filter=38&manufacturer=0&submit.x=27&submit.y=12)

SmartPhone's (http://www.trustedreviews.com/filter/mobile-devices?price_min=nmin&price_max=nmax&score=0&section_id=11&filter=37&manufacturer=0&submit.x=30&submit.y=10)

BlackBerry's (http://www.trustedreviews.com/filter/mobile-devices?price_min=nmin&price_max=nmax&score=0&section_id=11&filter=98&manufacturer=0&submit.x=22&submit.y=13)

Once you've sorted all that out you'll be an expert Si  ;)

I'm thinking of getting this (http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-phones/review/2007/12/23/Nokia-E51/p1) when my contract ends if they offer me a new fone  :leer: but  :dunno:

Another worth looking at is this (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/212526/htc-diamond-pda-handset-get-it-for-/showthread.php?t=212526). It can be had unlocked and there is quite a lot of info in the posts below the offer, especially post #44.

I don't think Sony do these  :)x   ;)

I was just thinking of something for portable internet access, with a bit bigger screen / keyboard than a phone.  I think I might wait for the Sony Ericsson X1 to come along.

Have you considered a Eee PC or summit like that.

They start at 7" and are pretty much like a sleek portable DVD player in size and work great on wireless

Loads of info here about them... http://forum.eeeuser.com/ (http://forum.eeeuser.com/)

Yeah, that's the sort of thing I was thinking of, Cammy, and have actually just got back from looking at one in PC World.  Two things bother me - one is, I don't like things in white, as they soon start to show signs of wear, and secondly, I have no guarantee of reaching a wi-fi hotspot, where I would be using it most, so it would really need to connect via my phone, and as my current phone isn't wi-fi enabled (just WAP), I doubt that it would work.

I've got one of these Simon

HP iPAQ 114

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/HP/HP-iPAQ-114.6968.html

I think its brilliant, the screen is big and clear and its easy to use. And I think  it does all that you need.

It's a pretty good price too......... this isn't the best price but it had the best write up.

You can get any of the models in black or white.

There's loads of threads on how to connect using your mobile like this one...
