I had to put the pc repair rebuild on hold as had horrendous time with builders (ongoing) but decided to get prepared to try and sort out my now spare defucnt machine.
I have purchased a Lindy AS wrist band but for some reason not that happy,am now thinking I should get a mat, found one on Amazon Hama which seems to have better reviews, have any of you got a brand which you prfer or know will do the job.
I have decided to try and change the motherboard on the machine and if I install a fresh OS hopeing I can save the data which I want to preserve.
As Im not sure how to make the existing one operate on my other machine I am trying to play safe.would I just install it within the case and then set the prioity of the HDs.
Anyway first things first....................any opinions on my choice of Mat. ???

Have to admit, all I tend to do is earth myself by touching a radiator before I start tinkering inside a PC, and I haven't come a cropper yet, but maybe I've been lucky.

Would a simpler way not be to take the hard drive out and install it as a slave in a working machine, in order to recover the data?

I just use a wristband connected to a 3 pin plug with the live and neutral wires disconnected from the plug, then stick the plug in the mains socket, thats when I am being really careful :)

Thanks Sandra I have seen these, yet to track one down, the only ones I have seen are with crocadile clips which I dont trust for some reason, and I am trying to be careful from the start.better safe than in a bigger mess ;D

Going to try this tomorrow Simon, will get the machine from ustairs and put into this one, will it just connect up to it internally, trying to work out in my mind.....as I could in theory be capable of changing a hard drive, but adding one at the moment is unknown, but it wont be this time tomorrow. :-X

Sandra,
I have one of those plug/strap set ups, but I must admit I rarely use it. Of course women can accumulate more static than men because of the use of nylon undergarments. Have you considered going commando as an alternative :)x
