Hi everyone, thanks in advance for all the help you all give at this great site. I have an interesting dilemma. I recently moved into a series of apartments that uses suddenlink and rateshaper for the internet. The problem is that I need to port forward the usual bittorrent 6881-6889 and I have no idea where and if it is possible let me know. Thx

Some good guides here: http://portforward.com/

That is a wonderful site and thank you for that. The problem is that I don't have a router. I am plugged into an Ethernet port in the wall of the apartment. I know that I have my firewall open for the ports, is there anything else I can do?

If your not the administrator of the internet connection then nope you can't do much. Do you pay for the net through a company, or are you living at a dorm of some kind?
Network administrators block certain ports to minimize the chances of bandwidth problems through p2p apps and malware infections.

hmm, nope not an admin and I don't pay for the internet. It sounds like you have hit the nail on the head *sigh*. Another problem I have may be linked to this. I have a roommate and we can't connect on our pc's through file sharing or through xbox live :S

Again, probably a limitation of the network. :(
