Title: Mouse Drivers and XP
Post by: Sandra on March 25, 2003, 20:19
Since installing XP my cordless optical mouse hasnt been feeling his best ???
Only 2 of his 5 buttons work plus the wheel but he definitely doesnt seem as happy as when he was on 98SE.
Its installed as a PS2 compatible mouse.I downloaded the drivers for it from the manufacturers site.
I tried deleting the original driver but it wanted a restart and installed them again as it booted.
I decided to try to upgrade the driver but it refuses to allow me to click on ok when I browse to the correct location.
Somehow I appear to have the original XP drivers on if I click on mouse properties but when I downloaded the drivers its put up a control bit where I can program the extra buttons, which seem ok now.
Any ideas how I can delete the XP installed drivers and force it to use the new ones  ???

This was a new mouse once  :P
It worked fine with 98SE as it used the drivers it was supposed to use.Unfortunately XP has decided its own ones are better than the proper ones and wont let me use the ones I want. Its a little better than it was once I set the pointer speed to maximum but still not as good as it was on 98  ???

I don't suppose there are XP drivers available? You will probably have looked at that, but the 98 drivers may be causing a prob on XP.

Not sure about removing the drivers on XP, but I have noticed the same problem on other PC's.

My mouse was detected as a 5 button by Win XP (or I set it up or something) and it works a treat!

I think the mouse has gone faulty  :(  Any time I click a button or move the mouse a green light on the receiver flashes and it does it instantly whatever I do but it appears that the left button signal isnt going from the receiver to the ps2 port correctlty,so I suspect the receiver to pc part has gone wrong.
I am using another optical mouse now with no problem although this is a corded one  :-*
