Title: Duffy.
Post by: mistybear on November 19, 2008, 13:11
I haven't heard any decent music in ages, well nothing that has really hit home. I was watching the View a month or so ago and the introduced a new Welsh singer, and I haven't been able to get this song out of my head since.

Plug in the speakers Clive and turn them up!

Stepping Stone (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=JKWr-Fex8gA&feature=related)

And this one is brilliant. Really turn them up for this on.

Mercy (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=KE2orthS3TQ)

The quality isn't the best, it's much better from her official site. If you go to Videos (http://www.iamduffy.com/index2.html), it has all of them.

She isn't my cup of tea.  Can't tell the difference between her and Dido.

Huge difference, this woman has an amazing voice and the music has real soul. They apparently are calling her the new Dusty.

So, should we call her Dufty, then?  ;D

I also like Katie Melua, Madeleine Peyroux and the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band - current world champions. :)

Duffy has an amazing voice but i think she struggles on the live performances a bit from what i've seen.

Beyonce singing irreplaceable near the end of her radio1 "live lounge" set was amazing for live  :leer:

How can you possibly compare Duffer with the incomperable Dusty Springfield?   :vomit:

It's a tough job, Clive, but someone has to do it. :)

From what I have read Clive, she's not that pleased about the comparison either. It certainly isn't a comparison that came to my mind, as I view her as quite unique. Also, how can you compare someone who is just starting their career, with someone who has had a full career. She is obviously very young, but in my humble opinion, has an extraordinary voice, which I'm sure will improve as she matures, along with her confidence which should make her a better live performer.

But those two songs send a shiver up my spine, especially Mercy. A fair indication that for me, it's something special.  :)

She is OK,  nothing more than that :icon_book:  I couldn't sit and listen to a whole album, she sounds the same ole same in each of her tracks

Only when I am nailed in my box MB.  (I was going to type screwed but that may have been inappropriate!)  ;D
