I have downloaded a couple of programs and when I try to run them I'm asked to find the application to run it. Or, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them."
This is also happening with some existing programs as well. :dunno: :help1:
-
Can you be a bit more specific, MB? What are the filenames involved, XP or Vista, are you logged in with admin rights (or whatever that's called in Vista).
-
I'm running XP. The program I downloaded, well one of them is RegCureSetup_1501_CB.exe
Not sure what you mean "logged in". I do have my computer password protected, so I have to enter it each time I turn it on.
-
Have a look in Control Panel > User Accounts. Does your account say administrator under the username?
An .exe file shouldn't be looking for anything to run it, is it after running the problem occurs?
-
Also another widow pops up when I double click on the desktop icon of that download is " Launch Application This Link needs to be opened with an application. Send to" and you get to choose an application.
I have no idea what that means.
-
What exactly is this program, MB. My first worry would be that it's trying to hijack your machine.
-
If you think its a free program Misty, forget it. The download is free ;D, sure it tells you there are problems, but to sort them you need to buy the program.
Like Rik says if you do not have Administrator privileges, you are not allowed to install programs. But if that were the case, you would have come across this problem wonks ago.
-
Its clonedvd, I got it to install but there is no exe. in the folder at all, even though it it says that it's a setup.exe. But I think I've just found the answer to one of them. I downloaded it twice as Michael said the one I downloaded from FileHippo, may only be an update. So I downloaded it again from CDFreaks. But I think theirs is a Trial copy and if you have already downloaded a copy it will tell you that your trail is finished.
But in my search I found the setupclonedvdexe file in my program file. When I double clicked it, it asked if I wished to run it and when I tried, the "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them." pops up.
And the other one is a result of the live search by windows to find the application that's missing. http://part.extensionfile.net/
Michael said that it won't run because it's and extension not a program file, or something.
I give up. I hate software!!!! :(

Hi Tony, I have downloaded lots from FileHippo without any problems in the past.
This problem is recent, I noticed the other day when I tried to run a program I've had for while. :dunno:

Another reg cleaning program, be careful they can cause more problems than they fix.
-
I think that is what started this gmax.
I run Tuneup Utilities, a reg cleaner every week and I think that started it. I went and undid the last couple of weeks of changes. But what ever is missing?
I just what to know how to find out what's been deleted or missing and fix it.
I have on lone a TV series on DVD and I just wanted to copy it to my HDD and give back. It's not a protected DVD, it's one a friend burned.
-
If its not protected just copy it with nero, uninstall clone dvd and find somewhere else to get your programs, " uTorrent " :o:
-
Can you do a system restore to a couple of weeks ago and try then? Like the others, I find registry cleaners to be potentially very destructive.
-
Perhaps run "System File Checker" http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html, download "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware" and run that, its a great little program for finding nasties lurking in the bowels of your pc
-
The Tuneup had a restore point as far back as 11/09/08, so I went back to that and canceled the automatic registry scans. I will delete the program later, and a few others while I'm at it.
I'll use that little file checker gmax, thanks.
Can someone please explain how to use Nero 8 for copying a DVD to my HDD. All I could find was how to make CDs and DVDs. :dunno:
-
Do it without Nero just copy & paste the contents of the dvd to any folder you create.
-
Bloody hell, why didn't Michael think of that. Mind you, I should have as well. :duh:
-
Actually, Michael did say that the files can get corrupted when copying and pasting, as has happened in the past. But we've done it, so hopefully I will get to watch Series 4 of Weeds at some stage.
-
I suppose if you ram or hdd is bad it could happen, but I don't have problems copying and pasting.
-
I ran HijackThis and HijackThis log file analysis. Nothing major, just three of these, Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\securenet.dll
It advised that Check your hard disc drive with Spybot S&D from Kolla.de or LSPFix from Cexx.org. This entry should not be fixed! Your best bet to repair it is to try the LSPFix from Cexx.org.
It was one of those mp3 Play or Players, thingy.
I suppose I should run another one to see if it's all sorted........
-
Yup. :)
