I have a desktop pc which is running XP will run SIW later,is it possible to install Vista rather than XP ?
Just a thought.Am I correct in thinking if the spec of the machine is enough then changing the OS is possible ?
-
You can always upgrade the OS if the hardware will handle it, David, though whether Vista is an upgrade is debatable.

;D ;D You know I live Vista ;) I will log it on later would MS be the only site to,I assume download it ?
I LOVE VISTA
-
That's the problem with it, it takes over your life. ;D
-
It is imho far more user friendly though and I think its far easier to sort out things which go wrong from time to time as opposed to XP which personally I find much more complicated ;D

I grew up with DOS, so I guess that, for me, XP is simpler because I can still get my hands dirty. MS progressively likes to remove the amount of control we have with each successive OS, and it's partly that which makes me reluctant to take on Vista.
-
agree with you there Rik, I like Linux cause I can get my hands dirty.
-
One day you'll convert me, Sam, or I'll buy a Mac. :)

I have just finished off a box I had built, I tried to install Vista business using an unregistered legit copy from work, but it wouldn't have it as it was an upgrade and said that I would require a previous windows installation with SP2. I then used an old OEM windows XP from a Dell machine we no longer use and installed that but because it was an OEM and had been previously registered it would not allow me to use Windows update to install SP2 ???
I rang MS and explained the situation, they said that I could download a new key and get a new copy of XP sent to me for £60.00. Did this and then installed Vista business and hey presto, working fine (well after some conflicts)
I must be one of the very few people who like Vista ;D
-
I should think, after all that, you'd be spiting yourself not to like it! ;D

Naah, fingers. ;)

I am a Vista fan too Chris :)
I wish youd contacted me before spending your £60 though :o:
-
Yes, Sandra could have spent it far more profitably! ;D
-
Never thought of it Sandra, will do next time
-
No probs Chris, just PM me on any of our mutual forums or email me :)

Just upgraded my xp with a vista pack £65 and it solved a lot of issues with that machine after a clean install, the sound was bugg££ed but a new sound card cured that for a modest outlay

I've been using vista since i got my quadcore machine built. Aside from a few driver conflicts it works pretty good. I just had to disable UAC and put the run button back into the start menu and it feels pretty much like xp. There are a few differences, but for the most part there aren't really many that matter.
