I saw a film last night called Religulous (http://www.religulousmovie.co.uk/), a pseudo-documentary about an American comedian with a Jewish Catholic background who is now an atheist. The film follows his attempts to discuss flaws in theology with devout practitioners of several faiths. It's worth watching if only for the truckers service in a lorry which has been converted into a chapel in a parking lot.
I grinned all the way through and I should imagine other atheists will love it.
Happy Easter :) !

And to you, Gill.
-
I'll look out for that, thanks Gill. Are you doing anything for Easter, or just hanging around? :)x

I shall be baking bread. The last lot I made was a disaster because it was too sweet for the leavening to work, but we'll passover that. It's my own fault - I didn't have any sugar so I had to getsomehoney and used too much. Hopefully, this will be more savioury and will be properly risen.
-
I've always wanted to try making bread, but it would have to be in a breadmaker, and apparently, they're a real faff to maintain.
-
Rubbish! I use mine all the time and the only part that needs cleaning goes quite happily in the dishwasher.
-
Which one have you got then, Clive?
-
OY!!!
Those were my finest (and most contrived) puns ever! I even got 'Gethsemane' into it. Credit where it's due, please ::) .
For what it's worth, I believe there's nothing like a Kenwood Chef for mixing dough, but if I'm short of time I'll happily make bread in my Panasonic SD255. Even bread made in a machine is far superior to anything bought from the shops.
Moving even further OT, I've tried the Richard Bertinet method and although I can make the sourdough starter, my dough is so slack that it's unkneadable.
Oh, and do make an effort to see the film - it's a giggle.
-
Sorry Gill, I'm afraid the puns passed over me, but I hope you're not too crossed. I guess they were really hot crossed puns. :thumb:

Jesus Christ Si you can be sooo fik on times ;D

Mine is a Panasonic SD206 which must be about 10 years old. I only use it once or twice a week and for several years I didn't bother with it at all because I was too busy. So it's probably had 7 years use.
-
Mine has been used about twice a week since I bought it over a year ago - it's so handy, not like machines I hear of which get relegated to the back of store cupboards.
Making bread with the SD255 is so quick. It only takes ten minutes to assemble the ingredients and four hours later you've got a fresh, light, tasty loaf costing much less than you'd pay in the supermarkets and using ingredients sourced from local suppliers, thus helping the local economy and saving 'food miles'.
In fact, I'm just about to pop out to our monthly farmers' market to stock up on flour and other sundries :) .

Who the hell is 'Gethsemene' anyway? ;D
-
Another recommendation for the Panny here.
-
I'm going to look really thick here, but what ingredients do you need, and is it just a case of throwing it all in, and it does it all for you?
-
Strong bread flour, a little yeast (you can get packets of dried yeast that make it easier), water, maybe a little salt and for variations of types of bread anything else you like to add.
You can also get packets of bread mix that you just add water to, but they work out a little more expensive, unless you can get them on special offer days.
Throw it all in the bowl, close the lid, tell it which type of loaf you are making, most machines even have a timer so you can set it up before you go to bed and have it come on and make the bread so thats its ready for when you want some for breakfast :)
-
Plus fat and sugar for most recipes. We make wholemeal loaves and the Panny is the only machine that really handles them well.
-
I'm tempted. Might put one on the birthday list. :)
-
My recipe is:
8 oz Strong white flour
4 oz Wholemeal flour
4 oz Spelt flour
12 oz water
teaspoon of butter
desertspoon of dark brown sugar
half satchet of dried yeast
teaspoon of Marvel
pinch of salt
lots of seeds (pumpkin, sunflower etc)
Chuck them altogether and switch on for 1hr 55 min
Remove, allow to cool, place half in freezer.
Incidentally it keeps much longer than shop bread.
You can omit the spelt flour but you must make up the shortfall with strong white.

Noted! :thanks:
-
Come on now Clive you know I "Lent" you that , but we let this passover for the time being...
-
Crust almighty David! You are just taking the rise now. >:(
