this is similar to the fat kid (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/2394/) that was doing the rounds ages ago ;D
BTW if you view this link in FF does any one get scrolling problems as in jumpy and slow. I had this a while back and couldnt find a fix. Its ok in IE, very smooth :dunno:
-
works fine in FF
-
Worked fine for me too. Didn't we establish it was one of your add ons, Baz?
-
cant remember Simon. I tried disabling Adblock plus but didnt seem to make any difference if I remember right. I also get the same effect when using google maps sometimes the satellite view but if I leave it for a while it seems to go ok. its as if the page hasnt fully loaded but the signs show it is loaded
-
I do get it occasionally when the page 'judders' rather than smooth scrolls, but if it starts happening continually, a browser restart usually sorts it out. Could also be your firewall or anti-virus deciding to be slow at checking web pages. :dunno:
-
firewall is just the router and AV is Nod so could it be that or not.would it check every time I visit the same site?
-
It checks everything that comes out of the router, Baz, but I use NOD with no problems, so I don't think it's that. Which version do you have? I think you run Firefox, don't you? If so, what add-ons do you have?
-
Nod i'm on 3.0.667.0 and FF yes with add ons running at the moment AD Block Plus; British English Dictionary; Mouse Gestures Redox;Tab Mix Plus
just looking at Task Manager and every refresh of FF the CPU goes up to 100% or very near. is that right
-
Try disabling the add-ons one at a time, starting with Ad Block Plus, which is, I suspect, the problem, Baz. :)
-
I'll try again Rik but i'm sure I tried before and it made no difference. will give it a go.
I hate Ads though ;D ;D ;D >:(
-
refresh the same page, this one, in IE and it only uses 43%
-
adblock plus disabled and its worse, but same page in IE is fine :dunno:
-
Have you got the latest Flash Plugin, Baz?
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
-
OK, turn them all off, then try. If that's OK, turn them back on one at a time, Baz.
-
ok.
Simon what version is that, is it Shockwave as I have 10.0 r22
-
how do you post a screen shot again :o:
-
no add ons is worse :o
-
Mmm. That doesn't make sense. ???
To post a screenshot, alt-PrtScrn to grab it. Paste it into a bitmap editor, eg Paint, Photoshop etc. Save from there as a JPEG. Hit the reply button, not the QR box, and select Additional Options, then browse to pic...
-
thought thats how to Rik but I dont see a browse option
-
That's because it isn't enabled here, Baz. Sorry, I thought Simon has started allowing attachments. The method works at our place...
-
We only allow attachments in the Technical Help threads. I'll do a topic split.
-
Right, you should be able to use attachments now, Baz.
-
Thanks, Simon. I thought we'd talked about it...
-
ok.
Simon what version is that, is it Shockwave as I have 10.0 r22
I have to confess, I'm never quite sure if Shockwave is the same as Flash, so I tend to go for both. :)
-
Me too, it just seems easier.
-
ok Thanks guys. the screen shot is of task manager when doing a page refresh in FF
-
Can you do one with the Processes tab showing, Baz, so we can see what's using the 99%?
-
does this help. sorted by CPU column
-
Something is downright wrong, Baz. I'd suggest backing up FF with FEBE, then uninstalling and re-installing with only the dictionary and FEBE as addons. See what happens then.
-
Yes, there's no way FF should be behaving like that. I'd reinforce Rik's advice, Baz.
-
dont think its made any difference. After the uninstall and install I didnt need to use FEBE to restore anything, it was all still there as before :dunno: unless I uninstalled it wrong.I even deleted the folders from explorer.
-
Which folders did you delete, Baz?
-
You may need to change to a new profile, Baz, but I can't tell you how to do that until I get back on my computer, and you'll need to be doubly sure that everything is backed up, as it will wipe all your bookmarks and settings.
-
The default profile is at C:\Documents and settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\Default.
-
just deleted the Mozilla Firefox folders in explorer. Stil had one for v2.*** so did that in case it was interfering with anything. I dont see the one you mention Rik
-
Do you have Explorer set to show hidden files and folders, Baz?
-
no but always thought I did have.....HUH!!!!!!! stoopid windoze >:(
do now. but looking at it I can get to Mozilla then have Extensions and Firefox inside it.thats all
-
inside Firefox is Crash Reports and Profiles>d6yvqopg.default then more in there like my add ons and extensions etc
-
inside Firefox is Crash Reports and Profiles>d6yvqopg.default then more in there like my add ons and extensions etc
That file, d6yvqopg.default is the one that needs to go, Baz. I'd uninstall, having backed up bookmarks and cookies with FEBE, then delete the program folder and that Mozilla one. Then re-install clean, and use FEBE to put your bookmarks and cookies back.
-
Thanks Rik, so would I.
-
why did I not have to use FEBE last time to restore.can I do a full profile back up
-
:dunno: dont know whats happening here, just tried the 'fat kid' site and its ok now
-
Wait and see time, then, Baz. If it starts again, check task manager and see what's eating the CPU.
-
ok will do Rik. got adblock plus enabled now too. will try it for a while.
-
well I dont know whats happening here. its still the same, cpu usage shoots right up when using FF. Tried all your suggestions.tried to download some new drivers for the graphics but the one I got seemed an older version that i originally had so I went back to the original.
even just a page refresh of this page sends it up but not in IE.
the driver I had originally was version 6.14.10.133 after the downlaod it was showing as 6.14.10.101 is that lower or not.Have to say with the 'new' driver the juddering had stoppedbut cpu usage was still up, when I went back to the original driver juddering is back on this site (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/2394/) and it takes an age to load.
Have Adblock plus disabled at the moment
-
I don't know what to suggest, Baz. It doesn't happen for me, so logically I'd be looking for differences in setup which might explain it. 101 should be older than 133, but if it works better, stay with it.
-
It doesn't do it for me either. I can only suggest trying Sea Monkey (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/), Baz. When installing, you can select Browser Only, so you don't have to install the complete suite.
-
Im back on 101 driver again as its better, the page seems to load faster too, dont know if thats related or not but as you say Rik if it works better stick with it.going to keep an eye on it and the cpu usage with this different driver
