Title: Internet Monitor
Post by: Reno on August 14, 2009, 23:31
I was asked by a customer yesterday if there was a way in which she could log/monitor internet use on her computer. Now I know of filters, but I don't know of any internet monitor. I get the impression she wants to see if her husband or kids are looking up naught bits while shes not home. Any ideas?

Internet history seems to monitor and keep an indelible record of all my indiscretions Bob.   ;D

I guess it depends how clever they are at removing the evidence.

If she really wants to know there are programs such as WinSpy which are key loggers and can also be set to take snapshots of whatever is on the screen at time intervals that you can set, from every few seconds to minutes or hours.
When you install it theres a setting for the logon box to come up with a combination of keys that you select. Unless you hit those keys you never see the program running.
It doesnt show in the program files folder so no one but whoever installed it would know it was there and running.

Someone I know used it to check on her partners teenage son as she thought he may be going on sites she didnt want him visiting and talking to people she didnt want him talking to on messenger and such like.
Unfortunately it caught her partner out, they were planning a wedding a few months later, shed already spent a fortune on getting the dress made, and she saw that hed been logging onto various online dating sites and saying he was single and looking for a long term relationship  :o

He denied doing it when she asked about it, then she showed him the evidence, needless to say the wedding was off and she kicked him out.

I'd be really shocked to uncover anything like that, Sandra.

It wouldn't be the unfaithfulness that would shock me - it would be the thought that he had the energy to be so duplicitous!

I never really paid much attention to the history tab on firefox until you guys mentioned it. It's more thorough then I ever imagined, and I didn't even know it was there. That should do pretty much what she wants. If the history is cleared out manuallly she would know someone was hiding something. Most keyloggers are removed by malware scanners. WinSpy even says It'll most likely be removed by any updated scanner.
