This seems like a useful site if you're looking for a new phone:
http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/
-
It shows the power of the iPhone that people are scrambling to make phones that look something like it.
-
Well, it's a trend like so many others. I expect one day, we'll see the return of great big buttons.
-
Handy for those with poor eyesight or big, clumsy, fingers. :)
-
I sometimes wish I had a phone with buttons, but the trouble is, the buttons are too small on anything but the most basic models.
-
Let's go back to the bricks. ;D
-
My first one was one of these...
(https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.telportal.ro%2Fimagini_telefon%2FPhilips_Diga_1.jpg&hash=fd430032b97042370269f8ab271320b378d96da3)
-
My first was the Orange Nokia 5.1...
-
I think that's the one Clive's still got! ;D
-
;D
From there, I went to Motorola flips, the mr601 and then the mr602, after that it's a blur of Nokia and Sony, currently we're on Nokia 6301s. The trouble is, so are our friends, which can get difficult. ;)
-
I can't remember all the ones I've had either. Nokia 6310i was one, and that's still a brilliant phone, if you don't want the bells and whistles, but great call quality, and a solid build. I then went to SEs, and had the K700, K750, K850, then they weren't so good after that, so after flitting about a bit with other Nokias, I ended up with the BlackBerry.
-
The 6310 was a classic - look how long they kept it running.
-
You can still buy them new off eBay. I think they are just perfect, if all you want is a phone.
-
They are. Great design, solid build, does the job.

I'm actually tempted! ;D
-
I know what you mean. :)
-
They make my brand new Sony T303 look archaic! I still have a tenners worth of calls to make with my Motorola before I get rid of it. I don't have it with me so I can't provide the model number.
-
You may hold the record for the oldest working mobile phone, Clive! ;D
-
That is a definite possibility Simon. ;D
-
it also a dangerous weapon.
-
It depends where you put it, Sam.
-
-
Si that one aint Sony! [wtf]
I have a SE K810i at the moment which i've had for a while but really like it.
After much looking around i'm hoping to go with the HTC Hero and i've been offered it with unlimited calls, texts and net for £20+ Vat per month which looks a good deal though i may be pushing the limit on the calls on times
They call them unlimited but have limits a bit like unlimited internet access packages ::)
-
not bad at all that offer... much better than the sticking deals over here (Canada that is)... just another reason to move back home :-D
-
Who's that with, Cammy? I do like the look of the Hero, but I'd have to have a black one. :)

T-Mobile
Their version is called the G2 and black but the exact same phone.
I've never liked the idea of the iphone and i like the idea of the android system.
I've yet to see it in the flesh and i don't want a mobile that's too big so i'll go for it if it's a reasonable size.
edit: The guy offers the best deal available to people on ukbusinessforums, he's a bit slow at getting back to you but does come up with the goods.
-
Yes, seeing them makes all the difference. By the way, the K810i was probably the last of the good SE phones, except for, possibly, the K850i, which was partially touch screen, but still had a 'proper' keypad. The latest models from them have done nothing for me at all, and even the C905 had problems with the earpiece.
-
Having said that, the forthcoming Xperia X10 looks stunning, and appears to be running Andriod! :woot:

Now that I'm back home after a tortuous journey on the M25 between the M40 turnoff and the M4, I can reveal that my Motorola on which I still have my precious £10, is the m3788e. According to eBay it's worth £1. ;D LINK (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/__m3788e_W0QQ_dmdZ2?rvr_id=&crlp=495938531_228459_228460&UA=WXI7&GUID=fe08d5ad1240a0e201c47674fee56882&keyword=m3788e&ff4=228459_228460)
-
Or a bit more if you're lucky...
-
I like one of the descriptions on that page: "ORIGINAL BRICK!!"
-
It's nothing like the original brick - they were much bigger.

Does that price include the £10 credit? :)x

But of course! How else could I get rid of it? ;D Rik is correct. The Motorola phone I had before that was twice as big.
-
I dropped my precious BlackBerry today, and now the screen won't light up unless I twist the case. :bawl: Going to see if I can get it repaired tomorrow, otherwise, I'll be looking for a Storm 2 on eBay. :woot:
-
Boys and their toys! ;D
-
I dropped my precious BlackBerry today,
Well I have a few raspberries and 2 melons you could try as alternatives si :)x
-
I've heard about your melons! :leer: ;D
-
:-X ;D
-
I now need a new phone. :bawl:
-
Or a better repairer.
-
Not sure what they could do if it's a cracked circuit board, though. I can't see that being economical to replace.
-
It depends on the cost of the board and how it connects.
-
Plus the fitting costs.
-
That's what I'm getting at. If it's a couple of plugs, it might be economical.
-
The difficulty is, there don't seem to be many actual repairers locally, just the usual shops.
-
RTM?
-
Got it off eBay. :( It's my own fault. :bawl:
Anyway, have another one on the way now. Cost just over £300! I shall be more careful with this one.
-
Worth an insurance claim?
-
Possibly. I was thinking about that earlier. I think it's covered under accidents. Worth a try, anyway. :)
-
As long as our excess is reasonably low...
-
£50, I think, but I'd have to dig out the policy.
-
That could be an excellent option! Hurrah for insurance! ;D
-
;D

You sound just like Bertie Wooster, Clive.
-
Unfortunately, the excess is £100, so I'm not sure an insurance claim would be worthwhile.
-
It's still £200 back, isn't it...
-
I suppose it would be, as long as they don't make me jump through lots of hoops to get it.
-
You've little to lose, you just dropped it and it landed on the corner...
-
True. I'll give them a call later.

Seen the fone yesterday in brown and i really liked the colour :horror: It's more like a dark metallic bronze to me and just round the edges and I'd go for that colour if i can get it.
The guy foned me but we decided best to leave it till February when my existing contract is up and i'm happy to do that.
He gave me unlimited unlimited texts (if you get what i mean) for £10 in the mean time when i was paying £6 for 100 and going over on times so i've been making good use of it as it's backdated to the start of the month
The mobile market is moving so fast at the moment gawd knows what i'll end up with in February :dunno:
-
A large bill? ;D
-
i'm currrently using a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, while I'm waiting for my new BlackBerry Storm 2. The SE is horrible, but might have been OK with a better OS. I wouldn't have another Windows Mobile phone.
-
Go on, get an iPhone. (Do you think Seb is getting to me? :o:)
-
You may have to use GOOGLE android Si :o: :)x
-
:aarrgh:
-
 Your opinion of google is similar to mine of the iphone. :)x
I doubt if i'll ever have one :o:
-
You sound just like Bertie Wooster, Clive.
What an amazing actor Hugh Laurie is! His roles as Bertie Wooster and House show just how versatile he is.
-
I agree, I am a fan of both series.
-
I've never seen House, but I've heard it's very good. I just don't have time to watch it.
-
It's excellent, though they spoil it every once in a while by introducing unnecessary drama.
-
Don't they always? ::)
-
Yup. I don't know why, it turns me off shows, not onto them. It was the same with CSI.
-
The latest deal from the guy on the business forum...
Just had a new deal signed off by finance up until Christmas.
3,000 minutes any network any time
unlimited landlines
unlimited texts
unlimited internet & e-mail
and for all the blackberry lovers out there, the new Bold 9700.
£23.50 per month (should be £83.50)
I may just go with that with a HTC Hero even if i have to pay the last 3 months of my existing contract. :-\
-
It's a great deal, Cammy, and almost sounds too good to be true. :-\
-
Well no deal is worth £83 but it looks very competitive and it would be perfect for me.
There will be Vat to add to that price i expect and it will most likely be a 2 year deal.
-
Even so, it still sounds a good deal. :)

Went with this deal with the HTC Hero in the end.
Just about got to grips with most things with the fone and the android, apps and customisation are gadget heaven
There doesn't seem to be any battery loss or stalling as was mentioned with these but i did up to the latest rom
I'm surprised how impressed i am with what is just a fone upgrade
-
:aarrgh: I'm desparate to try an Android phone. Can I borrow it for the weekend? ;D
-
couple of my friends have them, they are pretty phenomenal.
-

NO!!!
I wouldn't get it back ;D
-
You know me so well.

How "Google" is it? I mean do you have to use Chrome, or GMail, for example, or are they not too branded?
-
didn't seem to be too branded, though has a lot of the google stuff in there...
-
:ack: I'd have to remove that! ;D
-
:ack: I'd have to remove that! ;D
doubt you could - its just apps, like gmail... and things like that. I don't think you have to be signed into any google account...
-
I'll have to check one out. I like the look of the Sony Ericsson X10. :)
-
Chrome isn't an option yet.
I've just downloaded Dolphin browser which seems to be the flavour of the week.
Love the barcode scanner app where you just scan the barcode icon (QR Code) on your pc to download a program to your fone... android-dolphinbrowser (http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-mgeek-android-dolphinbrowser-qDEz.aspx)
-
blackberry have those apps too... they are all the rage over here.
-
Do they? I'll have to look into that! :)
