The year has not yet ended but Microsoft says "Twitter" was among the top searches of 2009 on its new search engine Bing and a company which monitors language has crowned it the top word of the year.

I don't think I will ever see the point behind Twitter.
-
Nope, me neither. :dunno:
-
I have no use for it!
-
nope nor do I... I think facebook is slowly trying to take that market away from them too - their recent format changes have made things more twitter like. Personally I see the point in telling your friends via facebook what is going on.. but the whole world - who gives a flying f***?
-
Indeed! Couldn't have put it better! ;D
-
You could if you were Shakespeare. ;)
Our revels now are ended.
These our actors,
As I foretold you,
were all spirits, and
Are melted into air, into thin air;
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capped towers,
the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples,
the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind.
We are such stuff
As dreams are made on;
and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.

The Tempest.

Indeed. I first heard the piece, as we didn't do it at school, intoned by one of the Clancy Brothers, to mark the end of a concert. The words struck home with me, and I then read the play. That small speech sums up Man's state, and is a good reminder of our lack of importance and abundance of mortality.

The remake Forbidden Planet, with the robot, was much better and easier to understand ;D

;D

How I loved that film! Robbie the robot! You probably made it Sandra! 8-)
-
Sandra was a robot groupie? :o ;D

I find Twitter extremely useful, although I only follow ten tweeters.
First, it allows me to keep up to date with the action during Chorley Football Club matches, as one of the regular supporters posts updates from the match (goals, major incidents etc.) live. Otherwise, I would have to wait until about a hour after full time to find out the score once the Unibond League website is updated.
Secondly, it allows me to follow the work of my local councillors, MP, not to mention activities and news from the local council, theatre and walking group.
Finally, the local newspapers use Twitter, so I can catch the headlines and click on the link to any local news items of interest. That saves me from having to wade through pages of sh1t to find the story I want to read. It works like the "View Posts Since Last Visit" does on here.
Having said that, I can't see any point in adding private citizens to my Twitter list, as I am not in the least bit interested that Madelaine is doing her nails or that Elsie is picking her nose. ;D

I can see that being useful.. bit like ceefax (but for teams no one cares about ;))... the Unibond league site should link too it..
