Title: Edge Of Darkness
Post by: GillE on January 20, 2010, 23:04
The Hollywood version of the classic BAFTA award winning 6 part TV drama Edge of Darkness is about to be released.  I thought the original was one of the most compelling TV dramas I had ever seen and was delighted to acquire the DVD.  The series was made in 1985.  It starred Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker, with Joanne Whalley offering fine support and was set in North Yorkshire during a time of industrial tribulation when global cooling(!) was a great concern.  The re-make stars Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone, is set in America, and makes me shiver with trepidation.

Right now, the original Edge of Darkness is available on Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edge-Darkness-Complete-bob-peck/dp/B00004CYR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1264028079&sr=1-1) for a tad over £4.00.  It's a bargain - if you don't already have it, buy it.

I used to have the series recorded on VHS but the tapes went the way of all videos and ended up at at the Council refuse tip.  Thanks for the heads up Gill!   8-)

I don't remember seeing it, but recall the critical acclaim.  Thanks Gill!

Someone forgot her role in 'A kind of loving' in 1982...
