Title: MS sees Windows 7 leap, but XP workhorse refuses to die
Post by: Clive on March 31, 2010, 19:36
Most Windows 7 customers are satisfied with the new operating system, according to tech analyst house Forrester Research, but many stick-in-the-mud types still see no reason to upgrade from the OS that refuses to die - Windows XP.

I had 3.11 on a laptop that cost me £1000 and took about an hour to boot up.  I bought it from Morgan computers if you remember them.   :(

For my first "proper" pc i initially considered Escom, but they were there one day gone the next despite having a nationwide high street presence i had a narrow escape. Settled on Dan who sadly are no longer with us either. I took a risk and avoided the familiar (to me) windows 3.1 and went for the new off the shelves all singing and dancing windows 95

I had several Time computers - four I think.  I remember paying up to £1600 each for them!  That seems an awful lot of money now.  :-\

I've found that the price of computers has hardly changed over the years, Clive, I've just gone for higher and higher specs.

The Acer I'm using now only cost £400 when I bought it 2 years ago.  It was quite a good spec at the time.   :)

Funnily enough, I was in PC World today, as I had some time to kill, and some of the HD Windows displays look just as good as Macs now.  ;D

Ah, Escom, that takes me back.  They were chiefly responsible for putting the final nail into the Amiga's coffin if memory serves.  I once went into one of their shops -- it wasn't there a fortnight later.  Happy days...
