I dont think it will be long before the god botherers are up in arms against it.
Thats one thing that all religions have in common, they have all tried to hold back scientific advances as much as possible ::)

OTOH, letting something into the wild can have unforeseen consequences. For example, someone brought back grey squirrels from the States and they pretty much wiped out the native Reds. Once the genie is out of the bottle, it's hard to put it back.

I agree that it needs to be kept under control Rik but if the god botherers had their way theyd stop all research into it completely, no matter what safe guards were in place.

I think this is slightly concerning but also a bit of an over blown statement - its not really artificial life.
