Post by: Clive on May 26, 2010, 19:40
The average broadband connection in the UK is 7.69Mbps, only fractionally above the worldwide average connection speed.

The United Kingdom is ranked in 33rd place on the Ookla Net Index, which measures average broadband speeds around the world.

According to the index, which is calculated using data from Speedtest.net, the average surfer in the UK can expect a download speed of 7.69Mbps.

This is only just above the global average of 7.67Mbps and behind countries such as Liechtenstein, Russia, Ukraine and Slovakia.

South Korea tops the list with an average of 34.19Mbps, while Latvia comes in a distant second with 24.3Mbps. Moldova, Japan and Sweden make up the top five.

Germany is in 16th place with an average speed of 13.11Mbps, France is 19th on 11.57Mbps and the US is 26th with 10.15Mbps.
