AMD says no to thermal grease
Void your warranty with one squeeze
By Staff at the Inquirer Newsdesk: Monday 28 April 2003, 11:03
ASK ANY OVERCLOCKER and they'll tell you that thermal grease is an essential part of getting the best performance from a CPU. Now Xtreme Tek has some bad news for those same overclockers. Using almost any thermal grease voids your AMD warranty.
There is an exception. Apparently, Shin Estu G 749 does get AMD approval. The only problem is that nobody knows where to get any of it. The most popular thermal grease has been Arctic Silver for a long time now. And that isn't AMD approved so using it means that you've voided your warranty.
Arctic Silver has responded saying that its products are fine. Well, they would, wouldn't they? The thing is, they're almost certainly right. It's odd that AMD has taken this stance; after all, a very large percentage of overclockers head straight for AMD products. You'd have thought that the firm would have gone out of its way to find some way of looking after those customers.
You can find the full story on Xtreme Tek (http://www.xtremetek.com/info/index.php?id=14&page=1).

This stinks of a back-hander, me thinks. >:( >:(

How's about an increasing returns volume of CPU's which have fried during the warranty period, but where suspected O/C'ing can't be proved.
What other reason could there be? :D

look if you want a AMD Athlon 2000XP to run as fast as a 2200XP but only want to pay the 2000XP price, then just wait a couple of months or so and buy an 2200XP for the same money as a 2000XP as is now ;D
It's a funny old world

...or have a look here (http://www.pcindex.co.uk) and you might find it cheaper anyway. ;)

Yes Tony, ....but .... that's part of the fun, getting something for nothing and exploring the boundaries of the technology.
