Canon has released its long-awaited EOS 60D, a replacement for the two-year-old 50D.
With an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, a DIGIC 4 processor and a nine-point auto-focus system, the camera packs a fair punch for stills photographers, but it is the advances in video that catch the eye.
For a start, the camera has a 3in fully-articulated screen of the type commonly found on camcorders. The screen swivels and tilts to make framing shots from odd angles more comfortable. According to Canon, the attention on video marks a commitment to include HD video in more of its DSLRs.
Videos can be recorded in 1080p at 30, 25 or 24 frames per second and 720p movies can be recorded at 60 or 50 frames per second.

I've been testing a Fuji this week which has 1080p, but the design is a compromise between still and camcorder and it shows.
-
In what way?
-
The zoom is 'steppy', the autofocus is not as effective on moving targets and often picks up something still in the background, finally, the image processing chip is having to compromise between speed and quality.
-
Perhaps gadgets should go back to being one thing or another?
-
I think so. Personally, I miss the days of film - in so many ways, you had more control over the final image.
-
You can still get film cameras, can't you? Of course, it means you've got to carry rolls of it around with you...
-
It's getting the film and processing these days.

I believe TruPrint are still going. ;D

Back in the day, though, it was quite exciting to get the pack of photos in the post. :)
-
It was, even if half of them were rubbish. :)
-
Just half? ;D
-
I was careful. :)

Or not when they went missing! :bawl:

I must have been lucky. :)

What did Snow White sing when waiting for Tru-Print to deliver her wedding photographs?
'Someday my prints will come...'
Sorry
