I'll be round later, Clive. ;D
-
Mine may be more challenging. :o:
-
I use old fashioned methods, Clive, dynamite being the favourite. :)
-
Never fails to work!
-
If it does, we use plan B. More dynamite. ;)

Those bump keys don't work - they're just an advertising ploy by locksmiths.
-
I had high hopes the thread might elicit a contribution from yourself Gill. :thanks:
-
To be quite honest, bump keys do work on some locks - but so do strips of plastic, and they're quieter. Anyone who gives a hoot about locks which meet their insurers requirements would have a proper lever mortice lock installed anyway.
There are several other matters that a burglar would consider before approaching a house with a view to breaking in through the front door. Visibility is particularly important; if there's a camera on the door and/or a light, the house is much less attractive. Similarly, if the frontage is open with no hedges, walls or porches to hide behind. Of course, the traditional deterrent of a "Beware of the dog" sign affixed to the door also helps.
I can't imagine why you might have thought I'd have an insight into this, Clive :o: .

Yes, I have 5 lever mortice locks or multipoint locks fitted to my doors Gill. Most insurers demand that such locks are fitted these days and mine is no exception. They will use any excuse to avoid paying out on a claim! I would have been surprised if you had not been the forum's resident lock expert Gill. ;D

I wish I'd seen this when I managed to lock myself out last year by nearly breaking a key in the lock, then finding out that my spare keyholders were on holiday! :bawl:

Isn't it always the way.
-
Luckily, their spare keyholders were around to let me into their house, to get my spare keys, otherwise I'd have had to call a locksmith out at 9pm.
-
I have an unofficial key holder, plus an official one for the alarm. I just hope we don't all go on holiday at the same time.

;D

Yes, we have a reciprocal arrangement with a neighbour, but we go away far more often than she does and she doesn't have any plants that need watering or conservatory doors that need opening into the house. I think we have the best end of the deal but we have to suffer her yappy poodles when she lets them out. :bawl:
-
It could be worse, Clive, they could be yappy Dobermans. ;D
-
Not a dog I could take to! :)
-
But they can take to you.
-
Indeed! :bawl:
-
Get yourself a chihuahua, Clive. No other dog will go anywhere near a chihuahua... twice  .

:worm: ;D
