I think you might have to have a freeserve account to use this service. I suppose a payg account would suffice. :)

My son regularly uses that to phone his girlfriend in Canada. ;D I think that several other companies offer similar deals too.

The easiest (and the cheapest) I have ever used is Telediscount: http://www.telediscount.co.uk
There is no registration or anything. Just go to the site and you will find a list of access numbers. Dial the access number relating to the country you are phoning and follow the prompts. The call simply goes on your BT bill, at the discounted rate. A couple of weeks ago, I phoned a friend in South Africa at 2pm Tuesday afernoon for two pence (2p) per minute.

I just checked out that site, Chorleydave. Is there a hidden cost, I find that unbelievable ???
Does those access numbers apply to mobiles as well?

Hi Lona.
As long as you dial the access number from your landline, there are no hidden costs. The price advertised is the price you pay. If you are dialling the access numbers from your own mobile, the websites FAQs advise you to contact your provider to find out if there is any surcharge.
Just one other point, one of the access numbers (according to the FAQs) is not supported by NTL.
