Jet Harris was a brilliant performer. He lived on the Isle of Wight at Bembridge for years, and could often be seen shopping in the local Somerfield. He always had time to stop and talk to people. I saw him perform at the local Theatre here with the Rapiers about a year ago. Although he looked a lot older of course, he had the same piercing eyes, and the guitar just came alive in his hands. He battled drink for years, but had been sober for a few years, and admitted that he felt better for it.

A friend of mine met him before he became famous, as he used to come here for holidays at a local Holiday Camp, and she was his girlfriend for a time. A few years ago a re-union was arranged, and they spent a day together, and brought back happy memories.

God Rest you Jet.

I read his obituary in the Daily Telegraph on Saturday and it claimed that Cliff Richard had a brief affair with his first wife in the late fifties.  That may have been the reason why Jet Harris left the Shadows in the early 60's.  He was indeed a brilliant guitarist.
