Title: Amazon cloud failure takes out Foursquare, Reddit

A failure at one of Amazon's datacentres has taken out big name cloud-based web-firms.

Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) offers companies low-cost, scalable cloud-based hosting, and is used by Reddit, Foursquare and Quora, among others.

Those sites were knocked offline earlier today following problems with the EC2 data centre in North Virgina, which serves the east coast of the US. Some sites have recovered since the outage.

proper cloud computing, unlike what is being setup around me.  :(
