Title: Moving computer settings
Post by: Den on February 13, 2012, 20:58
What is the best way to move settings and files etc' from my old (W7 32b) computer to me new (W7 64b) computer?

There used to be a thing called File and Settings Transfer Wizard on older Windows versions, but now, I think it's called Windows Easy Transfer.  Not having used Windows 7, I have no idea if it works in the same way, but I would assume it does.

I'd make a backup copy too by just copying over all your disk on to some external drive.

Indeed, but presumably, the transfer process only copies the files, so they would still remain on the old machine as well.

yeah presumbly - I can't say I've ever done that with windows. I just copy files over with a usb disk these days.

I think that's probably what I would do, but I also think that the transfer wizard might install programs for you as well (although, not sure of that).
